Habits 2
Habbits of Jesus

Luke 4:16
When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.

The word usual here in other translations says, “custom”…. But the greek word here is etho which means “by habit or conventionality.

So what are some of the Habits Jesus Had that we should practice???

1. Reading/Studying the Word

Luke 2:41-47
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. 42 When Jesus was twelve years old…they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. 46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. 47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers
.

In Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus was able to quote scripture “for scripture says…” to counter act when the devil was trying to tempt him.

2.  Prayer/Alone time with God

Mark 1:35
Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Luke 5:16
But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

Matthew 14:22-23
…Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

Luke 22:39-44
Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. 40 There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.”
41 He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” 43 Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. 44 He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.

3.  Fellowship/Community
Matthew 26:55
Then Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me? Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there teaching every day.

Luke 19:47a
After that, he taught daily in the Temple…

4.  Rest
Mark 4:35-40
As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.
38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Mark 6:30-31
The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. 31 Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.
