#007 The Battle Plan: Engaging in Apologetics
Wk 1 – Know the Battle. Objective and Loadout
1 Peter 3:15b (NLT)
15b And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
Be ready to explain it… In the New King James Version that last part reads “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you”
The Greek word here is apologia – a legal term meaning “a formal defense or justification of one's actions or opinions”
Voddie Baucham defines apologetics as “knowing what we believe, why we believe it and being able to communicate that to others in a winsome and effective way.”
That seems pretty straightforward, but apologetics is something we tend to leave to the formally trained doctors in theology, our modern day wise men. They debate on stages with well thought through arguments, evidence, charisma and confidence. They are the special forces Christians, and we mere common followers don’t identify apologetics as something we can do at our level.
