Acts 13:22(NLT) But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.  He will do everything I want him to do.” What made David such a man?  This is his story.

1Samuel 13:14 Samuel is speaking to King Saul: “But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart.  The Lord has already appointed him to be leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command. “


1Samuel 16: 6-10 (NLT) When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him.  The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them.  People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel.  But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.”  Next Jesse summoned Shimea, but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.”  In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel but Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.”

 1 Samuel 16: 11-13 (NLT)
Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied.  “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” Send for him at once,” Samuel said.  “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes.  And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”  So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil.  And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on.  Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

1 Samuel 17:47: “This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!”
The Lord knew David’s heart and knows yours.  Does He find us God focused? Does He find us believing that He is all we need?  Does He find us letting Him fight our battles?

1 Samuel 18:7-8 So the women sang as they danced, and said “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” 8Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” Finally, David flees and ends up in the wilderness.  His world is upside down and so is his focus on God.  

1Samuel 21: 2 “The king has sent me on a private matter,” David said. “He told me not to tell any one why I am Here.  I have told my met where to meet me later.”

1Samuel 21:4,5: “We don’t have any regular bread,” the priest replied. “But there is the holy bread, which you can have if your young men have not slept with any women recently.” Don’t worry,” David replied. “I never allow my men to be with women when we are on a campaign.  And since they stay clean even on ordinary trips, how much more on this one!”

2 Samuel 11:2-5(NLT) Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace.  As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath.  He sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”  Then David sent messengers to get her; and when she came to the palace, he slept with her.  She had just completed the purification rites after having her menstrual period. Then she returned home.  Later, when Bathsheba discovered she was pregnant, she sent David a message, saying, “I’m pregnant.”

“The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble” Psalm 27: 1 (NLT)

Psalm 51: 1,2-10-12 Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love.  Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.  Do not banish me from your presence and don’t take your holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you.”
In praise David spoke this to the lord.
Psalms 103: 1-2 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2  Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
 David gives us hope because we can relate. He struggled. We struggle. He faced giants. We face giants. He had uncertainty, wilderness experiences and family problems.  We have the same.  David proclaimed 
The Lord is my shepherd-I have all that I need.”  He said the battle belonged to God.  Let God be all that you need.  Let Him fight your battles.  Stay God focused.
